Fire Storm By Nancy Mehl

Fire Storm
Book Two Kaely Quinn Profiler
By Nancy Mehl

Back Cover: When FBI profiler Kaely Quinn's mother is diagnosed with cancer, Kaely takes time off work to go to Dark Water, Nebraska, to help her brother care for their mother. Upon her arrival, she learns of a series of fires in the small town, attributed by the fire chief to misuse of space heaters in the frigid winter. But Kaely is skeptical, and a search for a pattern in the locations of the fires bolsters her suspicions.

After yet another blaze devastates a local family, Kaely is certain a serial arsonist is on the loose. Calling upon her partner from St. Louis, Noah Hunter, and her brother's firefighter neighbor who backs Kaely's suspicions, Kaely and her team begin an investigation that swiftly leads them down a twisted path. When the truth is finally revealed, Kaely finds herself confronting a madman who is determined his last heinous act will be her death.

My Review: Fire Storm, Book 2 Kaely Quinn Profiler by Nancy Mehl

What a terrific book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fire Storm. It definitively was a 5- star book. Fire Storm can be read as a stand-alone but Mind Games, Book One was too good a book to pass up. The characters are well developed and well written. It is an action packed, fast paced, full of suspense with a hint of romance. The author Nancy Mehl out did herself. I can’t wait to read the next book, to bad I have to wait. It’s a time for healing and forgiving for Kaely Quinn. Her character is multi-faceted, unique and spiritual. God is pruning her life and her faith will have to sustain her through her mother’s illness, family drama, attraction to Noah and fighting an evil arsonist. Nancy Mehl hit on a hard subject of mental illness or was it just a demonic spirit. You will have to read Fire Storm to judge for yourself.

About Nancy Mehl: Nancy Mehl writes faith filled stories of suspense and mystery. She lives in Missouri with her husband and pug Watson. She is the author of the Road to Kingdom, Finding Sanctuary, Defenders of Justice and Kaely Quinn Profiler series. She received the ACFW Mystery Book of the Year Award in 2009. I personally have not read a book of her's that I didn't fall in love with.

God's not mad at you.

God's not mad at you.

I had someone ask me why God was mad at them, after much thought God taught me a lesson that I desperately needed to hear. He’s not, nor is he punishing you or me. God’s punishment was completely done when Jesus took our punishment on the cross. Bad things happen to good people. Hardships and trials are part of life for everyone, good or bad, Christian or not. If something terrible happens in your life it doesn’t mean that God is punishing you. The perfect example is the story of Job. Job was a righteous man, he was blameless and upright, he was a devout believer and yet still God allowed Satan to put him through incredible pain, loss and suffering. Through it all God never once explained why. By the end, Job’s one response was to trust God. When suffering go humbly before God, trusting that he knows what he’s doing. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

God has not forgotten us; he does not hate you; he has not hidden himself from you. Not all suffering is our fault. It can be from the sin of others. He is with us while we walk the hard road. God loves you. He cares for you. The Bible says, “I loved you with an everlasting love”, Jeremiah 31:3

Remember you are beautiful; you are worthy and you deserve an amazing life. This will pass. It will be okay and if not, it’s not the end. The best is yet to come.

About the Book, from back cover: When one Coast Guard officer is found dead and another goes missing, Coast Guard Investigative Service special agent Finn Walker faces his most dangerous crime yet. Thrown together by the heinous crime, Finn and Gabby can't ignore the sparks or judgments flying between them. But will they be able to see past their preconceptions long enough to track down an elusive killer, or will they become his next mark?

My Review: The Killing Tide, Book 1 of the Coastal Guardians series by Dani Pettrey

Finn coast guard officer and Gabby an investigative reporter team up to fight crime. He is put in charge of protecting her from a crime lord she put away and he is also investigating the murder of a fellow officer but the reporter in Gabby keeps getting in the way. They have tried to make a relationship work between them in the past but failed. Now that they are given this second chance, can they make it work. Sparks fly and the attraction is strong. Wow what a fantastic book. If you like fast paced action and suspense, well developed characters, and faith then this is the book for you. Running Target (Coldwater Bay Intrigue) by [Goddard, Elizabeth]My Review: Running Target is part of the Coldwater Bay series and the best yet. It can be read as a stand-alone. But be prepared to be taken on the adventure of a lifetime. Bree Carrington and her partner were making a routine water patrol when their world was turned upside down by drug running hit-men. Running for her life she is found by Quinn Strand with the DEA. He happens to be family friend and ex of Bree. Together they run for their lives, trying to protect her family and clear Quinn’s name. Running Target is well written, the characters are well thought out. It is action packed page turner that will keep you at the edge of your seat. It also has a few twists and turns that were truly unexpected. Elizabeth Goddard has done a superb job with this 5-star book. I look forward to her next one.

Courting Mr. Emerson, Melody Carlson

Melody Carlson

                                   Courting Mr. Emerson

Back cover: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West  meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen  up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause-- and finds herself falling for him in the process.

A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them.

But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The question is, will his change of heart be too late for Willow?

With her signature heart and touches of humor, fan favorite Melody Carlson pens a story of two delightfully eccentric characters who get a second chance at life and love.

My Review: Artist Willow West meets straitlaced recently retired teacher George Emerson and sparks fly. Read this great book to see if he can let go of his uptight ways and trust himself to love once again. Willow had me chuckling at her outrageous antics. Melody Carlson was able to weave Christian values into her story without being preachy.  She takes us on a tale of mid - life changes with faith and amusement. Even touches on some hard subjects with grace and dignity. This book was an easy enjoyable read.  The characters were realistic and lively. I give Courting Mr. Emerson 5 stars and hope she continues the story of some of the minor characters.

Look for other great books by Melody Carlson

Lone Star Standoff, Margaret Daley

High-Risk Reunion (Lone Star Justice)

            Lone Star Standoff
          Margaret Daley
Backcover: A high-profile trial turns lethal…

The next exciting Lone Star Justice novel

Presiding over the trial of a powerful drug cartel member, Judge  Aubrey Madison finds her life threatened, and Texas Ranger Sean McNair isn’t taking any chances. Protecting the widow and her  twins comes naturally to Sean—maybe too naturally for a guy who’s convinced he shouldn’t  have a family. But he can’t help wishing for a future with Aubrey…if he can keep her alive.

When a high profile trial turns deadly for Judge Aubrey Madison she turns to Texas Ranger Sean McNair for help. Both have lost love ones to the powerful drug cartel Coastal and are determined to bring them to justice.
Margaret Daley hit this one out the ballpark. Lone Star Standoff was differently a 5 star book. It was fast paced, non stop action, a touch of romance and a page turner. I enjoyed the well developed characters and realistic story line. The twist and turns of the plot kept me from putting it down. Lone Star Standoff is part of the Lone Star Justice series but can be read alone. Pick up this great book or any Margaret Daley has written you will not be disappointed.

How The Light Gets In

How the Light Gets In
Jolina Petershew
How the Light Gets In by Jolina Petersheim

This is my first book by author Jolina Petersheim, I doubt it will be my last. In How the Light Gets In, she takes a modern - day twist on the biblical story of Ruth. There were so many plot twists I never saw coming, even to the very end. As I turned the last page I sit here thinking and reflecting on the martial truths I learned. I wondered what was real. I honestly never expected the end or the many plot twists. I do know my eyes were opened to the real meaning of family and community. I was shown there is hope to be found in the mist of hardships, grief and the hurts of life. This book encouraged me to take a fresh look at how I approach strife in my marriage. And I also had to go back and reread the book of Ruth. I read many books but it is rare for one to touch me as much as this one did.

The author Jolina Petersheim did an outstanding job of developing the characters in fact she brought them to life. The plot has many twists and turns. It is a fastest paced book that engages you. I give How the Light Gets In 5 stars and look forward to reading my next Jolina Petersheim novel.
